As volcanos rage in Europe, Open Source rumbles in Ireland, as we seem to be smack bang in the middle of conference season! Somewhere between OSSBarcamp just gone and the Open Spaces Coding Day coming up we’ve managed to get a chance to mixdown a very interesting interview from FOSDEM with IronRuby contributor Ivan Porto Carrero.

Ivan is the author of IronRuby in Action, published by Manning, a comprehensive and hands on introduction to IronRuby – an implementation of Ruby which runs on top of .NET (including Mono). This allows you, for example, to easily develop Ruby plugins for Mono apps such as Banshee on Ubuntu, as well bringing the power of Ruby to a wide range of developers working with .NET on Windows. The timing of this podcast couldn’t be better as the official IronRuby 1.0 release is just out!

If this kind of thing tickles your fancy then you’re well encouraged to come along to the Irish Open Spaces Coding Day taking place at UCD Open Source Labs on April 24th!

Episode 6 is go! What? No episode 5? Well, we’ve gone a bit Pulp Fiction this week and given short shrift to doing things in a sequential order. The truth is we were cooking episode 5 last week and then DrupalCamp Belfast came along and was just so fantastic we had to rush an episode dedicated to it out the door!

So what is Drupal? It’s an Open Source content management platform with a strong community focus. We’re lucky enough to have an interview with Drupal Core developer Stella Power about getting into Drupal development along with a summary of some the goings on at the conf. The event took place at NICVA’s HQ and a massive thanks to them and all the organisers who ensured it was a cracking event!

And if you’ve any feedback please send it on via our twitter account (codemongrel) or post a comment below! We’d love to hear your opinion.

Episode 4 is out the door! This week we caught up with Jaime Hemmett and Justin Kelly in the Longstone bar in Dublin to find out what’s going to be happening at Ireland’s premier Open Source Software unconferenece – OSS Barcamp! Unfortunately we picked footie night to record the episode so you may hear some Celtic and Arsenal chanting from the plasma tv’s dotted around the pub – it all adds to the atmosphere!

A sincere apology to anyone who is finding that the podcast feed is downloading all four formats (high/low oggs/mp3s) at once. We promised we would fix this before releasing another episode but haven’t gotten the time yet. Never trust a software developer to give a realistic time estimate We will try to do this before the next episode. (Promise!).

And please let us know if you’ve any other other feedback via our twitter account (codemongrel) or post a comment below! We’d love to find out what you like or dislike (shock horror!) about the show.
